I have had both of my 780's die unexpectedly this weekend, and Asus is not gonna RMA them because I added aftermarket coolers to them. I am looking at upgrade options (980, 980ti, and the like), but I am wondering if it is worth it to wait until Pascal comes out to buy new cards and just use a cheap stopgap in the meantime.

BasicallyI'm aksing if Pascal looks like it's going be enough of a performance increase to wait a few months instead of going ahead and buying a new card now.

If it's even possible for you to wait, I'd suggest waiting for a the GTX 950 which will help you save a little money and wait.  I am currently doing similar with my GTX 660 and I hope Pascal lives up to at least 1/4th of the claims at least from Nvidia...  their claim is 10x more power.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

Were both of those in the same computer?  If so you might want to check your PSU before you shove any other cards into it.

Yea, that's the first thing I checked, PSU is fine.  I think it's because I did not support the cards and something near the PCIe ports broke, or at least that's the only theory that makes any sense to me right now.

You're gonna be waiting 12-16 months until Pascal is released. Buy something now and enjoy for a year+.

That's kinda what I was thinking, we don't know exactly what Nvidia will be releasing or when.

From reports, HBM has low yields so far and supply is very limited. Good chance AMD might have first serve at HBM2 since they helped develop it (thank you AMD for being innovative). Pascal has been taped out since April/May or so, so the design is near complete. If I had to guess, Pascal may not be ready until between June (at the VERY earliest) to September 2016. Depending on HBM2 production of course and Hynix.

If I were you, just get a 980 Ti (I have it; beast!) or even the Fury/x. Enjoy gaming at high performance for a year then sell it for still a considerable gain and apply to your next gen card. :)
