So, looking to get a new SSD for my rig to run the OS off. Obviously, windows 10 is now available and im getting a free copy.

The problem is, I want to format my current HDD which is running windows 7 and all the other crap polluting the shit out of my rig.

So, question is:

Can I install Windows 10 onto the fresh SSD simply by plugging in and choosing which drive to install to? And from there can I format my old HDD?

No, but when you do the windows upgrade you can do a clean install - then you could clone that to the new SSD

Personally, I always install on one drive then fix other drives from disk management. Disconnect the HDD and plug in the SSD, install Win10, then after all is done connect the HDD and format it from disk management.

If I disconnect the HDD and plug in the SSD, I wont have access to the Microsoft applet to get Windows 10

Make a USB install drive or burn the ISO on a DVD right from the media creation tool.

How can I clone on to a new disk? simple copy paste haha?

No you need software for it

easiest way is make a windows 10 USB stick from the ISO and do a clean install, then format your drives
