So I'm doing a my 970 strix red, I just picked up a can of protect dip cause they didn't have red plasti dip, is there a differance ?

And is there any technique I should use when painting that's diferant from using normal spray paint ?

Also do I just clean the shroud with some running alcahol to remove the oils and stuff then once it's dry paint it ?

And one last question how long should I wait between coats and how many should I do ?

I used plasti dip for my two GTX 980s.
Worked out pretty well.

A few tips:

Don't put them on the ground. The pieces you want to paint should be hanging of something, because the plasti tip will grap on to pretty much anything it touches. I ripped a little bit of it off on a corner, which doesn't look good.

You should wait around 5-10 minutes between each code. Only use very light codes. It took me 10-15 codes to actually let them look white.

Very important: Don't touch the paint while it is still wet!

Of course remove the parts of your graphics card you want to paint. Don't just tape it off. You'll most likely rek your GPU if you just tape it off.
It took me over 5 hourse to completly disassembe both of my cards, paint them and reassemble them and I was even to fast. I reassembled them while they were still drying, which wasn't a good idea.

You can see pictures of my cards in my signature by clicking the link.  ;)

I have a write up under Painting that goes over the details for plasti-dip and the different finishes and techniques:

Ya I already pulled the shroud off and took out the fans, just finished masking it off, although I have nowhere to hang it to paint it :/ also what would I use to hang it ? Wouldn't it stick to whatever I'm using to hang it ?

For plasti-dip if your are going for a smooth orange peel type finish it's best to lay it flat to paint since it requires the part to be sprayed until wet without runs. the best thing to do when hanging parts for painting is install a bolt or screw in a threaded hole and hang it off the bolt using general wire or copper wire.

If you painting one side at a time using some riser blocks or painting triangles to hold it up off the work surface, I personally use weighted down cups since they are cheap and readily available.

If you put it on a flat surface, then the area is much larger it could stick to.

If you just let it hang on a string, then there is only the string it could stick to, which is also much easier to remove. :)

So far so good, although the protect dip seems for like a red clear coat and is taking alot of coats to get to a nice red, I'm at around 7 coats right now and it could use some more

Ok so now there's a problem, a fly decided to land in the middle if the paint and is now stuck in it along with some pebbles of sand :/ not very happy but I have no choice but to leave it alone, good news is its on the top of the shroud which I won't see when it's installed

Damn nature!

Try to use a tweezer to remove the fly and stuff when still wet, and if there are bumps or bubbles a good trick with plasti-dip is to wet it with some paint thinner with your finger, be sure to not drag over it. however it does become glossy so it will require a new coat overtop .

got the fly out but it doesn't look the best, I think that's all I'm going to do for today, I'll let it dry a bit more outside then move it inside for the night and see how it looks tommorrow, intel hd graphics for the time being
