I am going to be upgrading to Windows 8.1 Home to Windows 10 Home and need some help.

I will be clean installing Windows 10 and need to backup data from my hard drive. I have an external 1 TB drive which will be sufficient for space.

So my questions are: 1. How do I backup all my data (across multiple users, also) from my computer.

2. For Steam and Origin will I be able re-download purchased games and the data within those games?

3. Are there any other things I should know relating to Windows 8.1 backup and Windows 10 clean install? (any recommended guides that show you step by step on how to clean install would be great)

Thanks!

1. Windows will make an 'old' folder with your old data. Otherwise just get a hard drive and chuck everything youre worried about on there.

2. NO programs/games/applications which are installed will be working after a fresh install, so get the installers for the programs you want or just re-download them. For Steam youll want to make backups of your games if you dont want to re-download them again.

3. Just do a few googles or youtubes and see what general tips people give.

1. There might have been a backup utility that came with your external drive, check that out.

2. YES that is (probably) the greatest benefit of key-based accounts for Steam and Origin, is that you'll be able to install them with literally just your password.

3. First you need to know that you have to install Windows 10 normally (NOT a clean install) to get your key activated. Then you can do a clean install.

As for tips/hacks/guides, check all over the internet as there are lists like these complied in different places.

I used most of those tips and I'm very happy with my Windows 10 experience so far.

Yep, as long as you log in to your account which has all the games on it, youll be able to re-download any of them as you own the key for your copy of the game. Steam saves all your game save data on their servers also so you wont need to worry about your save games :)

Multiplayer games like Battlefield, CSGO skins, and GTA will indeed, but Skyrim is held locally I believe. A simple copy over to your 1TB External drive would fix that easy peasy!

Thanks guys so much!

Id highly recommend just doing Steam Backups of your larger games (GTA, Skyrim) as youll be able to re-install them much faster and without having to re-download anything.

I am going to be upgrading to Windows 8.1 Home to Windows 10 Home and need some help.

I will be clean installing Windows 10 and need to backup data from my hard drive. I have an external 1 TB drive which will be sufficient for space.

Thanks!

I just have 2 questions

1. Is your computer running well?

2. Why do you want to clean install?

If you have already clean installed then never mind really but, if your PC is running well I suggest just upgrade your pc cuz then everything stays the same. Also, the best way to upgrade to windows 10 is but first upgrading then doing a fresh install just to make sure keys are right and some other stuff.
