You can't go wrong with anything made by Tippmann. They're rock-solid and absolutely dependable. If you're on a budget, the 98 Custom is a fantastic starting point. The next step up would be an A5, which has this cool mechanical feeding system so you won't chop balls... basically ever. I've even got one with an electronic trigger and at full auto it won't chop or dry fire. If you want to get fancy, they also offer the X7 (basically a cosmetic upgrade) or X7 Phenom, which lets you swap between electrical and mechanical modes. That way you can have burst or auto fire when you want it, and if your battery dies, you just flip a fire selector and you're back to mechanical mode.

I used to play at a competitive level with a Division 3 team but I stopped, got boring, computer parts too expensive.

But I still have a super nice pump that I'll keep forever. https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/v/t1.0-9/923402_586777771389632_885401355_n.jpg?oh=1db949a0d646f5ed43c9a4bd656cd73f&oe=5650945D

I have owned/shot every gun on the market so ask me about any specific one.

As a general suggestion, I'd say anything by Azodin or GoG, stay away from Dangerous Power, Smart Parts, BT, JT, and I wouldn't suggest any Tippmann Besides the 98.

If you'd like me to build you a 'starter kit' give me your price range for everything as well as if you play speedball or woodsball.

I played competitive speedball for three years from 2006-09.

It's extremely expensive and it's a lifestyle choice. If you're just getting into it, don't cheap out on equipment because you can get most of your money back if you don't wait too long to sell. I mostly used EGO (Planet Eclipse) and shocker markers (not sure if PE is still around but they were definitely one of the better companies)

If you're playing bushball - you can't go wrong with tippman markers.

That type of marker will run you anywhere from $400-$1850, if you want to know more about high end markers I can write you a novel.

Search SpeedBall on youtube.

brush is out in the woods and such. where you are already playing it sounds like.

speedball is a field with inflatable bunkers.

brush is usually a bit slower pace. depending on where you play.

speedball is a lot faster and fewer players per game.

You'd probably like GoG's G1.

The gun it's modeled after was my absolute favorite woodsball gun.

That's true, they are pretty basic. I kinda assumed you were coming in on the ground level, in which case the fact that you can abuse the heck out of them is pretty nice. As far as electro markers are concerned, I have an old Etek that I've used for years, even at events like OK D-day and it held up just fine. Like Nater, I'd recommend the EGO markers, which iirc are higher-end versions of the Etek. I'm in no way an expert on paintball equipment, and probably don't go often enough to justify keeping what I've got, but what I have has served me very well.

They actually EXTREMELY cheap for that type of marker.

I suggest you purchase used markers from http://www.pbnation.com/forumdisplay.php?f=141

Just make sure the person you're buying from is legit.

I was kinda looking at the tippamnn gryphon. Are they any good? any suggestions like it?
