Hello,

I've bought a build a week ago, and it was fine.. but I've noticed that the SSD was filled up already, so I was just wandering around looking where it was consumed, windows 7 was taken 21GB of it, I was really confused, I have no idea why I went and checked logs (Event viewer), and I saw events from 19th June 2014, and my PC is only 1 week old!

I wasn't there when the windows "setup" process was done by the shop, so I just came in and saw it as new windows  (there were no programs)

The SSD is Samsung 850 EVO (was it even existed in 19th June 2014?)

I am only having some error logs, is it possible to have more detailed logs? Like if it was used, what was it used for?

Sounds like it was a clone / image install being transferred over as opposed to an actual install to me.

How can I make sure of such?

I will contact the shop soon as they open, but it's really strange.

I've cleaned up all my games and all my programs to the normal Hard disk, and the SSD is still using 65 GB, even though if I properties each folder and calculate them it wouldn't be more than 30 gb (20gb for windows is normal though? )

I'm not sure, but all I can say is that you should have been there when they installed windows if you were there for the rest of it

It was lunch time and I had a friend with me, so when it booted and he told us there's no hardware problem we went for some food :[

/true story/

Oh and I have the box of the SSD though

Yes 20GB of RAM is normal for windows, and try ccleaner to clean your SSD to remove any un-necessary files

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

I've done it already, no difference at all, I even tried "disk clean up", but now I am more concerned whether the SSD was used or not :[

Was 850 EVO even released 19th June 2014?

Naw here try following my guide here. This should solve the mysterious taken up space

So I keep seeing these strange issues with storage space going or being taken up by something. I have the solution. I came across this issue because of also a lot of storage space was missing from my WD Green 2TB drive.

First solution

Delete any zip files you don't need. Many people download zip files and never delete them after they are done extracting the goodies from them. After awhile these guys pile up and take up storage space.

Second solution ( Most hog of storage space )

The reason why most storage space is missing is basically of system protection. Now what system protection does is well protect your system. It contains system settings and system files along with system restore points. Now depending on the size of your drive ( Drive with your OS on it ) it automatically decides to take up a certain amount of space from your drive for system protection.

First type or find advanced system settings and you should get a window like this.

Now select the system protection tab and you should see the image above.  Now select the drive that has your OS on it. Like in the picture above it says it as local disk ( system )

Then click configure and you should see a window like this now.

first delete all previous system restore and files and you should get an increase in storage. As you can see am a worry type of guy so I have lots of space to spare for system protection.

Of course now change the slider depending on how big your storage space is and tada you have more space. Now don't forget to create a new system restore point.

The first time I did this and changed it. I had 1TB full of system protection data so yea. Now I gotten a crap ton of space now :P and now have 1.7 TB of space now :D

I hope this gets pinned to help others and to in general to help those who are wondering what happened to their storage space.

And please anyone, how can I check if the windows was just "image copied" or if the SSD was really used?

UPDATE: I've just called them and they told me these 2 things

1- SSD uses more buffer that's why it shows more size (?)

2- The image they used was probably old that's why and it's new SSD

Does it make sense? And can someone explain for me this "buffer thing"

Lol it could be that Windows 10 thing. The windows 10 is in that BT file.

And are you sure you did the thing I showed above on your OS SSD. And NOT YOUR HDD ?
