so i have linked my laptop and pc to my netgear wireless router using Ethernet and my PC my PC has a gigabit Ethernet and the laptop can only do 100mb/s

 

whenever i try to transfer a file from the pc to the laptop it only hits 10mb/s max is there any way to speed this up would i require a switch i have also adjusted the duplex so is there any way to make this speed faster 

 

i also read up somewhere there is 20% cap on my network

 

any hep would be great

~80mb/'s = ~10MB's  your speed is fine. you just don't know your units :)

you prob won't hit 100mbs on wifi so 80 seems about right.

1 byte is 8 bits.

thanks would a switch make it faster or if a had two gigabit Ethernet computers

As I said not really my specialty and my post by was more to the cable side, I'm pretty sure he was running the laptop on wireless.

No need to get cocky.

i wasn't if it sounded that way.

but yea ithink the only cables that aren't at pc-pc gigabit  are those phone line cables. but now awadays most are gigabit. just depends how far it will last.
