Windows 10 tablet upgrade

TheMastr13

So I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro that I would like to upgrade to Windows 10.

Currently it runs Windows 8.1 32-bit. But, it has an Intel Atom Z3740D, which is a 64-bit processor.

My question: I really would prefer a x64 OS, so can I download the x64 ISO/upgrade from the Windows 10 website, or do I have to use a x86 upgrade?

Thanks!

You know that guy that games on a MacBook? I'm that guy.

if you want to do that then you would have to do a clean install

isnt that tablet ARM based tho?

You need the x86 build if you're wanting to upgrade for free, to go x64 you would need a x64 key.

I would not go 64 bit if you're not upgrading ram (reality is that that's not possible in such a small tablet)

There is literally no point.

Also, Windows 109 has worse battery life (on my Surface Pro 3) so I'd stick with 8 until they can be arsed to fix it.

The venue 8 is ARM based but, the venue 8 pro runs Windows

That's too bad, but I'm gonna go ahead with the upgrade.

But can I upgrade from a x86 to an x64 through the little tool? Or would I need a fresh install?

EDIT: never mind, the x64 upgrade installer won't even run.

Interesting... I stand corrected then, they never used to let you in the past. Think I'll try and upgrade my tablet to x64 then. Eh, doesn't give me the option to, and I can't use an external USB key without messing around with the recovery/tablet BIOS

I'd fresh inastall anyway but the process if you're upgrading is:

  • Download the Update Tool
  • Download the iso file (you know, 64-bit etc)
  • Re-start tool
  • Select update this pc in the tool
  • update
  • Extract the key
  • Install 64-bit (but select upgrade - keep your old files)
  • Activate Windows if it wants it (I've found 50% it does automatically, 50% it does not)

Woah! I get like 5 hours at a push when using Edge, 6 hours using IE and like 3 using Chrome :'(

Out of curiosity, is there a way to turn the brightness below 25% yet? I'm finding it's too bright at night.

try fn+del (increase brightness) / fn+backspace (decrease brightness)
