It is only for people who own a legit version of Windows and have a properly activated PC(in theory anyways). Product keys can generally only be used on one PC at a time - an exception are the licenses that work on multiple machines.

Okay well my version of Windows is the latest build and I somehow managed to activate it with updates will I get a message in the future like previous versions of Windows saying this is not a genuine key? The only reason I'm using a key I found online was because of the mixed messages I got from Microsoft when they said it was gonna be free for windows insiders.

If it's not recognized as genuine, you have 30 days to activate it.

haha that's so funny.. it thought it was genuine as soon as I put it in..

Then it could be a cracked product key.
