First of all, sorry if it is in the wrong category. I thought it does not fit well into Software and it is a problem that i have.

As you can see in the attached picture, i want to calculate a formula in Excel10.

How can i define the variables as a cell and how do i get a solution?

I hope you understood what I´m trying to do.

Greetings

Helge

http://spreadsheets.about.com/od/excel101/a/Excel_beg_guide.htm

Here's a basic tutorial.

Basically you put variables in cells, then in the target "solution" cell you begin with "=" and then either manually type the grid location (i.e. R5) or click on the cells in question to auto fill them. Excel works with all standard operators (multiply, divide, add, subtract) as well as specific operations like AutoSum "=SUM(A1:D2)".

Thx rustikles,

but I think i know the "basics" of Excel and i know how to work with normal ("=if.....") formulas, but how do i work with this predone formula of excel?

Which predone formula are you referring to? There's no attachment or pic in your post.

As far as I know there isn't any way to use summation in excel directly. The best way I can think of is to either make it a recursive formula (i.e. drag the formula down in a column) with each new row being an integer in the sum, or there might be a way to do it in an array.

Wait a minute.....isn't this just the binomial theorem?
