I just recently upgraded my 5 year old-ish hp pc with a new psu and a r9 380 4gb. This pc has a core i5 750 cpu, wich is a quad core cpu 2.66GHz with turbo boost up to 3.2GHZ on the lga 1156 socket. My question is should i upgrade it? Because i have run some games and gpu usage is always 100% (wich i think it indicates no bottleneck, correct me if i am wrong) and an used i5 4770k + z97 motherboard would cost me 250 euros, and thats quite a lot of money for me. Thanks for the help

It probably botteneck on 1080p, but if you are ok with the performance, no need to change.

I wouldn't upgrade just yet but mabe next year.

EDIT: or by the end of this year or when pascal comes out... or just whenever you want

If you are going to upgrade cpu wise at all then I would get a i7 for LONGEVITY. A current gen i5 4690k and i7 4790k are almost identical when it comes to gaming but in the long run if you want a cpu to be relevant for longer then I suggest getting an i7. People with an i7 920 can still play aaa titles with little to no bottleneck. But seeing as though you have a 380 an i7 might be overkill so i would save up for at least a 4590 :D

i7 is waste of money because games are just starting to take advantage of 4 phisical cores, its gonna be a while before they take advantage of more than that. an i5 wont bottleneck any single gpu on the market at 1080p and the difference to an i7 is like 5fps, wich is not worth the extra 100 euros.

I'm currently using a I5 760 with a 980Ti.

Even at 3.8 and 4.0Ghz overclocked it still bottlenecks me. I will be building a new system with a I7 6700K Skylake-K CPU when it comes out.

Pascal is a long wait... we will be lucky if we can see it at Computex 2016 in June, or at E3 or at Gamescom.

I think it will be Q3 or Q4 2016.

With the i5 and i7 single core performance is the same, architecture is the same. Otherwise, the i7 COULD be the choice that in another year or two you'd be glad you went with due to the potential for increased resource demands that games may want to see, and a trend towards games moving away from single core optimizing to being coded for threaded processing.

Yeah, but too bad Hashwell and Skylake don't have 6 or 8 core CPU's, you really need to go to 2011-3 platform for that.

maybe but until then new and more advanced cpus will come out better of saving money now than spending all of it in an attempt of "future-profness"

You dont get 100% gpu usage in games?

No way, instead of getting like 144FPS in Battlefield 4 like JayzTwoCentz in the benchmarks I only get 80 and 90 because of my CPU.

In games like Witcher 3 my GPU runs at 99% but sometimes it spikes down for no reason.

You should try to overclock the I5 750, it will help a lot and last 1 or 2 more years  :D

My only reason to upgrade would be if I want to get a second 980Ti, but I don't think that's a wise choice because my cards will be worth nothing when Pascal comes out.
