My X99 pc has 16 gb of ram in 4x4gb. If I want to upgrade in the future, how will these config be performance wise? I'm not sure how the quad channels work.

1. add 4x4 for 32gb as opposed to changing to 4x8gb

2. add 2x4 for 24gb

3. add 2x8 for 32gb

Also, does the brand matter when adding RAM, or just the clock speed?

My motherboard is msi X99A SLI Krait Edition, if that matters :)

I see..

My current RAM is Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB)

So in my case, I should aim for additional 2 x 8GB of 2666Mhz Cas 16 sticks in the future?

I know I should've got 4x8 in the first place, but it's still super expensive here.

I would add 4x4 of the same type or sell the 4x4 and get 4x8 if you want it quad channel if you plan to add the 4x4 of vengeance lpx I would leave it to long before the design changes imo it looks well shonky mixing ram designs

1.21 gigawatts !!! 1.21 gigawatts!!.... Great Scott!

Yeah that's true, might just wait till the price drops and get a new set of 4x8 then, right now 16gb seems enough.

By the way, will 8x4gb be more unstable to the system somehow?
