Hi LTT.

I'm moving to Edmonton and had a look at Teksavvy basically due to the 2am-8am free-download.

It looks like I'd have to buy my own modem. So basically the company just drags in a coax cable in the apartment ?

I want to use my own WRT1900AC router so I'd had to get a modem just to change the coax to a ethernet file that will work but can someone confirm that?

Going from Scandinavian internet will be different and I'll have to get used to a bandwidth cap (which should be doable with the 2am-8am free-download period). I'm just wondering what I need to buy in order to get my WRT1900ac to work.

Any tips would also be very welcome.

I use teksavvy in Toronto. Yes, all you need to do is buy a modem. You can buy one from them or try your chances with getting a used one off eBay/kijiji. I like this approach compared what the big TelCo's in Canada do and force you to get their modem/router combo boxes which usually blow and are overpriced like crazy.

All you will need to buy is the modem, and then connect the ethernet out from the modem into the uplink on your wrt.

When in doubt, re-format.

I'm, actually looking at switching to them as well.

AFAIK They use Telus' lines.

Depending on your neighbourhood, they use whatever is available. In Toronto Telus isn't a cable/phone provider, we only have Rogers (coax) and Bell (copper phone line) as the only options. Teksavvy re-sells connections from EITHER so its your call which you choose. I know in my neighbourhood, the Rogers works much better than Bell.

When in doubt, re-format.

Ya, we have one of those.

Once we switch ISPs I'm going to try and buy a decent router to hook up and use the modem/router combo unit for the modem.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)
