SMS blocker for Android Lollipop

Hi I have the Motorola Moto G and the Google Messenger app and used that to block texts from someone but it has been unreliable as texts randomly come through sometimes, not sure why? So i was wondering if there's an alternative.

I use Textra and I believe you can block numbers, though I don't now how well it works because I've never needed to block anyone.
