Installing GPU drivers

Alir

I ordered a Sapphire R9 390 GPU and it is to be delivered today.

How shall I go about installing the drivers? Should I install my Intel i7-4790K integrated graphics driver first and then install my GPUs' drivers? Or shall I not install the integrated GPUs driver?

Don't install integrated GPU drivers, also don't use drivers on disk, get latest one from internet

The only useful answer.

So skip the integrated driver and install the new one?

And what if the integrated driver is already installed? Should I uninstall it via 'Device Manager' and then install the new GPU driver normally (via the internet)?

Yep.

Is the integrated graphics driver "Intel® HD Graphics 4600" under "display adapters"?

I naturally assume it is, but I just want to be sure before I uninstall it ;)

As long as you don't plug the display cable into your motherboard for CPU integrated graphics, you do not need to worry about integrated drivers. Simply uninstall any and all previous drivers from different graphics cards, then install new ones from AMD.com

Motherboard: Asus X570-E
CPU: 3900x 4.3GHZ

Memory: G.skill Trident GTZR 3200mhz cl14

GPU: AMD RX 570

SSD1: Corsair MP510 1TB

SSD2: Samsung MX500 500GB

PSU: Corsair AX860i Platinum

I've broken down to procedure into little steps to prevent confusion. In reality, it does not take long; within 5-10 minutes overall.

  1. You don't need the Intel or AMD drivers at the start.
  2. Install the GPU into your system, and connect any necessary PCI-E 6-pin or 8-pin connections. If are NOT optional, they are mandatory. If you see two PCI-E 8-pin connections, you plug them both in. Not none, not one. Both.
  3. Connect your monitor cable to the back of the graphics card; not the motherboard ports.
  4. Turn your computer on.
  5. You should be able to get an image, but it will be low resolution. Everything on your computer should still work.
  6. Go to AMD's website, and download the latest drivers. The newest available currently should be 15.7. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download. Scroll down to 'Manually Select Your Driver' section.
    1. Select the type of system that you have >> Desktop Graphics
    2. Select the product family your product belongs to >> Radeon R9 Series
    3. Select your product >> Radeon R9 3xx Series
    4. Select the supported operating system that you have >> Whatever version of Operating System you are using...
    5. Click the "Display Results" button.
    6. Catalyst Driver Suite, 15.7.
  7. Download, and install the drivers.
  8. When you install the drivers, you have a choice to between "Express" and "Custom" install. Choose "Custom."
  9. The mandatory items will be selected (i.e. the drivers), but the extra programs you can decide.
    1. Do not install Gaming Evolved "Raptr" App. It is known to cause crashes, BSoD's...and I am unaware if those problems have been addressed yet.
    2. The video Transcoding, Steady Video, etc. is all up to you.
    3. It would be highly beneficial to install "Catalyst Control Center"
  10. Let the Install wizard do it's thing.
  11. When the installation completes, check the LOG. Make sure the installation(s) are "Sucessful."
  12. You are then asked to reboot the computer. Do as you are told, and reboot.
  13. Done.

Some people ignore the reboot step, because of mere laziness, and it messes up with their Windows install. It asks to reboot for a reason -- it needs to makes changes to certain Windows settings, registries, and services, and some can't be modified if they are in-use.They tend to screw it up, and end up chasing their own tail. One major cause is because they don't reboot their system when it asks you to. I mean, it's an extra 1-2 minutes; better that then spend hours or days troubleshooting.

I clicked express but fortunately, the Gaming Evolved App failed to install for some reason.

Thanks.

I clicked express but fortunately, the Gaming Evolved App failed to install for some reason.

It may be AMD is tinkering with it, but otherwise, without further information, I don't know why it would.

Regardless, I recommended that you NOT install it, so...prophecy? :P

As long as the important, non-optional software is installed, you should be good to game.
