Clock-for-clock the Titan X would perform a bit better. It has a few more CUDA cores. Generally speaking though the 980 Ti performs better since it tends to run at higher clock speeds more consistently (with boost), particularly since the 980 Ti can have aftermarket coolers.

980TI G1, Titan X don't overclock well unless you plan on getting a Titan X hybrid if they have one. Titan Xs are kind of pointless now

eVGA's 980Ti K|NGP|N stock clock speed is said to be 1304 MHz with a boost of 1418, I'm sure it'll get higher speeds with how efficient his cooler is.
