One USB port only working?

Go to solution Solved by rustikles,

The case I have is the carbide 200r. The motherboard I have is the Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3. The case has two USB 3 ports at the front, only one actually works whilst the other doesnt.

Example: I can plug in my external HDD on to the non working one, and power will go through to the HDD and it will spin up, but Windows wont detect the device, where as on the working USB port, it will. The same applies with anything else I plug in, USB flash drive etc, how do I revive this dead front port.

Make sure you have up-to-date USB drivers first of all. Those can be downloaded from Gigabyte's website. You might also want to check inside disk manager to make sure the devices are not being detected at all, rather than just not being assigned a drive letter.

None of the above works? Check to see if all your front panel cables are plugged into your mobo correctly. There's always the possibility that it's a defective port.

EDIT: problem solved, thread reported to be closed.

I just solved it now, there was a sm bus controller with no driver on device manager, downloaded it off the website and it works now  :)
