Solved. Thank you

Go to solution Solved by Guest Strangerbob,

The advertised response times are bullshit, you can ignore them.

The one thing you want in your monitor (if you gona use it for gaming) is either freesync or gsync. Even if you dont game - all freesync/gsync monitors will always have PIXEL response time and input lag as low as it can be on LCD - and much better than some monitors out there which do advertise 1ms. That 1ms is marketing bullshit, just like advertised contrast ratios.

Now that thats out of the way. You absolutely want an IPS 4k monitor, not a TN garbage which will shift colors, contrast and brightness if you relax your neck.

Heres the list of current released or almost released 4k monitors which i call the only 4k`s worth spending actual money on:

600$ LG 27mu67 - 27 inch, IPS, 3840x2160, 60hz, freesync
800$ Asus pg27aq - 27inch, IPS, 3840x2160, 60hz, gsync
800$ Acer xb271hk - 27inch, IPS, 3840x2160, 60hz, gsync
400$ Samsung u24e590d - 24inch, IPS, 3840x2160, 60hz, freesync
500$ Samsung u24e850r - 24inch, IPS, 3840x2160, 60hz, freesync
1200$ Samsung u32e850r - 32inch, IPS, 3840x2160, 60hz, freesync

Alright the first monitor to pop in to my head is Asus PB287Q, which is a DAMN SOLID monitor, it is 1 ms, 60Hz and 28". It looks damn well for a TN-panel as well and I use it for gaming, surfing, editing and all that so it is highly recommended for what you'll be using it for!

Other than that I recommend the Acer XB280HK which is has the same specs and all that but comes with G-Sync if that interests you! Though if you're mostly aiming for productivity rather than gaming the Asus will do you better. Besides: I dont personally think that G-sync makes a difference on 60Hz anyways so ye..

Anyways!

I have a Dell XPS 13 and I use it for literally every use you can think of, sometimes I find the screen too small so I would like a 4K monitor to accompany it.

I do video editing, minor gaming, web browsing, skype calls, word processing and etc

Can anybody suggest a 4K monitor for this? I have no budget just a few requirements:

  • 1 or 2ms response time
  • 24" or larger
  • Preferably a thin bezel

Thank you :)

what are your specs? can your gpu even handle 4k "minor" gaming?

G-Sync does help, it smoothens out the frames and makes 60hz feels like it's actually higher

It will be really useful especially at 4k, but you have a point since people have personal preferences

Yes that and that he will be doing minor gaming, and be mostly focused on productivity so I think paying more for G-sync in his case would be unnecessairy! That and I personally think that Asus panel has better colors, which will help him with the edititng part!

I'm not sure if he can even reach the "minor gaming" if his GPU can't handle it

IPS costs the same as TN at those sizes, but OTHER people should buy TN, because YOU need to justify your purchase a bit more? Quite a move.

What you fail to realise is I'm not justifying my purchase.. I could go out and buy any monitor in the world and not care about the cost..

justification is for people who on a budget buy the best they can afford and then try and make out that it's better or a better choice.

I'm not doing that, I'm meerly pointing out that you have an unhealthy hatred towards TN that's almost on a console fanboyism level.

you make out the TN is a horrendous experience and that sticking pins in your eyes is a better option than ever looking at a Tn display again.

there's millions of people who have made the conscious purchase of a Tn panel... every early 4k adopter (like myself) anyone with an rog swift or competitive gamer alike... if the experience was so appauling nobody would buy them.. specially if costs were the same.

again I mention linus a lot as its hard not to as he kind of owns the forums.. never in any of his 4k Tn reviews does he say they have bad viewing angles colour shifting or any of the things you point out.. and as a reviewer you'd kind of expect him to point these things out..

but it's fine.. you can sit and bash TN all you like it's your life and you can waste it doing that..

but for the rest of us we will give help to people and not tell them that licking Satan's ass is better visually than Tn..

I doubt anyone in this world would sit down in front of a good quality Tn 4k display and complain of a shit experience.. other than yourself but you'd probably do that before the monitor even turned on..
