True you can sometimes find better deals for used GPUs much like Drackeo did or like Luke Laffr did on that LTT scrapyard wars video.

If you don't feel comfortable with that and want to buy new? The AMD R9 380 is slightly better than the GTX 960 stock. The AMD R9 280X is faster though and still works fine if you can get a 3GB VRAM version on the cheap but it doesn't have all the same features as the R9 380 is all.

I had an msi gaming 960.  Loved it.  No comment on the amd cards.  But I don't think you can go wrong either way.

 

What power supply do you have? Have you taken that into consideration?

IN that price range either card would be fine. Personally I'm an Nvidia guy BUT I dont hate AMD.
