I am running dual r9 380 4GB's and have noticed in GTA 5 that I sometimes use 4500 up to 6500MB of VRAM. I still have very smooth gameplay.

Other specs I'm using are an i7 5775c @4.2GHz and 16GB of HyperX Savage memory.

EDIT:

Using the latest 15.20 Beta drivers.

Resolution used is 2560x1080.

that is because with crossfire you are not doubleling your vram but mirroring, and measurement software will show both double the available vram and used vram, if you half the amount that is what you use on each card

So it is in fact the total amount that is used/mirrored over each card?

It would seem so. nVidia cards' monitoring is proper and will show you what's being used on each card, so the used vRAM amount won't ever cross your card's limits, but I've seen multiple AMD cards crossing 6GB of vRAM etc when in CrossfireX with games that should be impossible to hit that kind of vRAM with.

What you should do is disable CrossfireX for a minute, run the game, monitor your vRAM, then exit it and turn back on CrossfireX and see if it doubles.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
