Just wondering what everybody is thinking about the new steam controller and steam link

personally i think the controller looks cool but i'm not sure it would be easy to game on like a mouse and keyboard that i am used to
And steam link sounds great but my wifi is like 0.5 mbps right now (Biggest ever peak at 1.3) and i don't think my internet will handle the witcher 3 in 1080p :(

Why Is it windows 10 not 9?

because 7 ate 9
(say it)

IMHO, the controller is bad-ass. It cannot FULLY replace a KB+M but then again, it isnt meant to be used while you're sitting at your computer desk. Its supposed to bridge the gap between a XBOX controller and the KB, so that you can play games on your couch that you couldn't before. Steam Link on the other hand is pretty meh for me since my gaming rig is in my living room already. Also, there are a ton of products on the market already that offer more or less the same functionality. Its definitely a cool idea though if you need the function it serves.

When in doubt, re-format.

I have an alienware alpha "steam box" and I think the controller will be great for playing it in my living room.
I can't see it replacing my mouse and keyboard on my main rig, but I do think it'll be great for living room/playing with friends.

Higher frame rate over higher resolution.

I would like to get my hands on the Steam controller before deciding. It might be cool but it's very expensive and I don't think it will be good enough to be better then a basic 360 controller.

The Steam Link idea is cool. And for people who want to do in home streaming it's a decent option for it's money. I don't need it since I have an old Dell office PC for media PC that can handle in home streaming just fine.

Bought the controller out of curiosity. Dunno if it'll actually work out. I don't expect it to be a replacment for my beloved 360 pad. I take the controller as an addition to the family. Time will tell.

If you're interested, I wouldn't trust early reviews. Especially from consumers like steam review. I guess a lot of people will start a shooter, get wrecked hard and start to complain horribly... It'll take time until you're familiar with the new controls.

I'm not too thrilled about the controller, but the Link... that's something else. With the improvements on the In-Home Streaming service, that's the ultimate "play your games wherever you want in your house without too much of a hassle". In fact, I expected something like this from Valve back when they said that they wanted Steam to be on every TV of our houses.

  • 2 months later...

I can't judge a controller without using it. For some time...

But looking at the design it looks great to me. More precise than anything else from a couch. And there's haptic feedback which opens up a lot of possibilities, then dual stage triggers. And I still have the analog stick for flying and driving. With this I would actually try playing fps and RTS games from the couch.
