I was looking through newegg today and came across this on sale, ending today 7/20/15.

I've mined ltc before but stopped last spring when the difficulty went up. Since I'm going back to school in the fall in the northeast where its a bit colder and the power is already paid for I figured Id start thinking about getting back into mining.

edit: foreseeing this since I said ltc earlier, I know that the mining mines btc

Basically, since my power is "free" do you think this mining would work out ok, mainly since all ive ever really heard of is the spondully and antminer (sp?). At current prices and difficulty i would break even in about 3 months, probably a bit more since id need to pickup a heatsink.

since im going to college and will have power included, thinking of getting something similar. I think there are used mining eq. on ebay thats cheaper though per ghs

It's a nice solution for a small heater too :)

both good points, I was looking on ebay and I was finding antminer s3's for around 150 or less. I'm just not sure how loud those would be and if I would be able to run those on the school network since if I read it right they just plug in through ethernet and from experience last year they seem to have the network setup to slowdown/stop traffic if there is a switch with 1+ clients running from 1 ethernet wall port.

there was a antminer s3+ (wifi based) with the same hashrate as this thing for 120$. thats what Im considering, worried about heat output though. my solution was to just put it so it exausts into the air return in my dorm room

That may be the way i go, I know heat shouldnt be an issue for me once winter rolls around but before that idk, may have to hold off. Do you know if the 3+ has ethernet too or is it a one or the other type thing?

Still not bad, although unless I'm mistaken the 3 has WiFi too, feel free to correct if that's wrong. The other bit is that apparently you can't connect to wpa-2 enterprise with a miner
