Bought one from here, pay an extra $3 for a Quad core, will be worth it in the future if the person is planning on getting the most out of that system.

E8400s are getting cheaper by the day and usually overclock like little monsters with the right gear. Often find then for $10 or less.

Q6600s are also easy to find for the quad core route.

doubt you'd get a q660 like people are suggesting..

Wow, guess you got lucky, but ya it is amazing how cheap they are and in fact I have seen them popping up in systems being thrown out/recycled. Looks like we are at that point now were Quad cores are going to be more or less free in the coming years lol

Personal experience Q9300 is a stable choice (they are binned from the same silicon as Xeon E3320 so if you are lucky you get a Xeon-grade Q9300)

I have one served me since 2006. Maybe the Q35 MoBo took a bit damage during service but after I put it into a server grade board it is all happy again.
