Win8.1/Win10 help

Go to solution Solved by Speedbird,

So I found out today that Win10 pro edition doesn't have the stupid (IMO) force updates.

I currently have Win8.1 Core edition (essentially Home). Is there any way to upgrade to 8.1pro for a cheep cost instead of buying a brand new copy?

Upgrade to Windows 10 Home, then install Pro using a key you have bought via the Change Product Key menu. If you haven't bought it, it should be available from purchase from either the included Windows Store app or from a local retailer after the launch. All your files and programs will be kept. However, Windows 10 Pro will only be able to delay updates, not stop them. And why do you not like Automatic Updates, if I may ask?

yep.......its cheaper just to buy a new copy of windows 7 or 8 pro but you asked for instead of buying a new copy.

Would I have to use a CD or anything to get the upgrade if I get a key?

Updates are first tested by Windows Insiders, if they don't report any problems it gets pushed to the Current Branch. And throughout my 4 years of owning Windows PCs, I have not had a single problem caused by an update. And a single broken update out of tens of thousands of working update should not be a reason to disable them.

Well, when I looked further into it, it was one of the optional ones for Win7 that was sent to my model when it shouldn't have been.
