Hi i am going to be building my first desktop and I allways want to play at ultra settings. I am going to be using a 1080p monitor (at least for a while till i can afford a better moniter becuase moniters are as expensive as hell). I am not sure if a 980ti is over and if i should just go with a 980 for 60fps ultra 1080p gaming.

I am also going with an i7 4790k if that helps.

If you are going to get a better monitor like a 1440p or 4k one then keep the 980Ti. If you just plan on 1080p then go for a 980.

like i said moniters cost tons and 1080p is still hd and i would prefer to have high fps and settings than have a higher res but lower fps and settings

unless you have a craving for Nvidia, AMDs R9 390X is slightly cheaper then 980, but performs slightly worse at 1080p, at 1440p its almost a dead race between the two. The R9 Fury is slightly more expensive and slightly better then the 980.

The Fury (NOT to be mistaken with the Fury X) is right inbetween the 980 and 980Ti, but costs nearly 100 USD less then the 980Ti.

I would advice getting a R9 Fury, it will save you around 100 USD. This could go towards getting a 1440p monitor, which would certainly be nice.

I would advice getting the i5 4690k. I have the i7 4790k myself, and i can tell you from experience, the FPS i see in games, it doesnt warrant the 100 USD extra over the i5 4690k. At best the i7 gives me 4-8 FPS more, even at ultra its not much more. Paying 100 USD for that is overkill.

Get the i5, overclock it with a nice Z97 board, then enjoy life for years to come.

Since you didnt post a budget... here is a suggestion for a pretty decent setup.

You could change the R9 390X to a R9 Fury Tri-X OC from Sapphire for better performance, albeit it will add another 100 USD to the price.
