I have a spare GTX 970 EK black plate was considering swapping out for a looks. 

Just wanted should I do it or not?

If your running on air and trying to add the EK backplate you might be able to do it with some longer screws and some trial and error. The backplate is designed to bolt right into a waterblock so it's hard to say.
