So notebooks this generation no longer have a sticker of the key for the OS you own on the bottom of the notebook.

If I were to reformat how will I know what the key is?

What cheapo/budget sound card do people get these days? I am still using a ASUS xonar DG (headphone amp preferred).

there is also a key finder from Magical Jelly Bean that I use on clients computers to 1. save their information if something happens, and 2. if I have to reformat or replace the HDD.

No one's using soundcards anymore.

wat

What happened to quickly ditching onboard sound and replacing it with a cheap sound card?

Thanks. I will give this a try.

But, shouldn't it work if I just download the same exact OS onto a USB and reformat? Will it pick up the key in the BIOS anyway?

If I remember correctly, modern notebooks now have the product key embedded into the BIOS or something. So if you were to reinstall Windows or something, it won't ask you for a license key.

Its possible but its always better to be safe then sorry. If it does not have it in the BIOS then you could run into some problems.

Onboard sound got good and people realised that if they spent the money on a better motherboard instead of a cheaper motherboard and sound card then they got something better.

And if people want to upgrade there audio from that they get a external DAC.
