Board is fine. CPU might be an issue.

You won't have a problem upgrading the GPU, but the CPU is a bottleneck. You might have to change your CPU and mobo to pump out the 970's full power. Probably a 4460/Some H97 mobo.

The CPU is only a bottleneck in games such as Starcraft 2, Total war games, MMORPG games and other CPU intensive games. In which case, a top notch Intel CPU would also be a bottleneck. Games such as the Witcher 3, Last light, Battlefield 3,4 and Hardline will be bottle necked by the GPU long before CPU becomes an issue.

As for Dota 2, LOL, HOTS, CS:GO and Diablo 3. These games are designed to run on toasters.

As you can see, the difference in performance is not that huge before it goes to RTS and MMORPG games. With the exception of Dragon Age origins, but it's still above 120FPS in that title.

So yes, a 970 is compatible with your current hardware. And it will have major impact on graphically intensive games, though not so much in CPU intensive games.

All of those games are CPU heavy.

First of all, nowhere did i state that the games were not CPU heavy.

In what way are these games in any way shape or form CPU dependent games? They are certainly not light on the CPU, you are correct in that, but to call the FX-6300 a bottleneck for the 970 is a far fetched idea.

If I were to upgrade the cpu to an amd fx-8350 would it still bottleneck or limit performance?
