low fps on certain games

I just downloaded rocket league on my laptop and for some reason i'm getting 15-20 fps while playing the game. I got into a game of league of legends and i'm getting ~250 fps so I don't think its a problem with my laptop (maybe the settings of the game?)

any ideas?

 

specs: i7-4720 hq

gtx 960m

16gb ram 

512gb ssd

What are the setting in the game set to?

The GTX960m  is not nearly as good as the 970m and 980m so if the setting are on max in the game then you will see issues

Were going to need to know how far you are trying to push the graphics in game.

ok so i hadn't touched the graphics settings in the game since i bought it. so i turned down the graphics to the lowest on everything, turned off anything that could affect performance and it actually worked. after turning down everything to the lowest i got ~55 fps in a normal game.

I probably look really stupid now for not trying to turn down the graphics but i honestly thought my gpu could handle such a (silly?) game.

Some games are horribly optimized, im not familiar with the game you are playing though.
