I being planning this build for 3-4 months now and it is now that I bother seeking help.
I will use this computer for everyday use but mostly gaming, I hope to run most games on 60fps 1080p and maybe 1440p if I bother getting a new monitor.
this is the build I'm most sure of in pcpartpicker http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rRgvt6
I am mostly clueless about the motherboard and PSU. budget is $2000 but I want to keep it as low as possible.
I plan on buying the cpu i7 4790k in micro center when I go to Houston Texas next month. I'm currently in south Florida so if I can get parts cheap here let me know. Also will the gigabyte geforce gtx 980 ti fit in a corsair 450D mid tower case?
I'm thinking of overclocking but I'm not really sure

EDIT:
Here's an idea of what I'm trying to build, I want a pc that will be able to run on  60fps 1440p MGS5: the phantom pain
Will a gtx 980 be enough to handle it? or I should go for a gtx 980 ti.
I want a pc that will last me for years and that will be able to have plenty of upgrades if needed.
I'm set on getting a new monitor so what is a good 1440p monitor to get for gaming. The build can go over the budget if needed for the monitor.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LfZ4Vn < I made some changes to video card, cpu cooler, and ssd.

I would say that 1440p is a minimum with that GPU. If you are going to play at 1080p go for a 980.

What I changed:

Cooler: Just a different one, little bit quieter and better temps :)

Case: Nicer case too.

SSD: The V300 is pretty bad, so the MX100 will be a fine replacement :)

Peripherals: You don't have to spend that much on peripherals but it'll be badass if you did.

Definitely go for 3440X1440 or 2560X1440 is you are going to get that 980TI.

A very capable build able to handle 1080p,1440p, and even 4k with ease. A intel xeon cpu that performs like an I7 for all your cpu needs. A very reliable BX100 ssd to load your system fast, and the very capable R9 390x to handle your gaming needs. A dvd writer in case you can't make a usb boot drive, a ac capable wireless adapter, and a gold rated psu from seasonic make this a very good gaming build, for $800 under your max budget.
