you should test if its the local network, or the outside connection by doing the following command:

ping -t <address of your modem>

you can check the address of your router/modem by typing

ipconfig

and checking the list for the interface you're using, and grabbing the address listed as "default gateway"

usually this'll be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

the ping command will run until closed, displaying connection delay to the address you filled in, when the connection to your modem dies, this'll either show an abnormally high latency, or show "request timed out"

Alright so what happens is that my ping time starts to increase (from 1 ms to like 50 ms) then it shows general failure then request timed out then goes back to normal. There are also times there the ping spikes but the internet doesn't disconnect.

thats a problem in your local network then.

check if any of your devices is failing or if any cables are iffy.

Check for windows updates, make sure you have your drivers for your ethernet adapter on your laptop.

If you have another machine to test from, try the same ping test to your default gateway and see if you've got similar results.

If all else fails, try making a USB boot drive for linux or some other OS, try pinging your gateway again.

If it works fine in linux, it could be a problem with your installation of windows or a general windows driver issue.

updated drivers via windows update didn't work

Are you using powerline adapters at all?

They are known in my personal experience to stop working at random times for a few seconds, then start working again. - Or if you turn one side off and back on, it's fine again. Until the next time it decides to loose connection.

Mine disconnect for a few seconds maybe twice a day at most though.

After using wifi for a bit it seems as if wifi also does it (wifi has a signal strength of 4 in my room) so yeah

Oh, I'd say you need a new Router then.

If it's happening on both wired and wireless.

Replace the router and see if that fixes your problems. :)

it cant be my router as my computer is the only one with the problem

So it's only your computer, and it happens on both wired and wireless?

-- Try moving the computer to next to the router, and use a new RJ-45 Ethernet cable and iff it still happens then try a new network card.
