So this has happened 2 times now (1 moth apart). I open up Furmark, click open GPU-Z and close furmark at which point my PC freezes yet skype keeps running and I can even talk to my friend with him hearing me just fine. Last time I had a game open in the background this time only Mozilla.

Is this a problem with GPU-Z or Furmark or me closing furmark to fast before it loads GPU-Z or something? I've not had any freezes in Shogun 2, LoL, Dota, DS2, Homeworld 2 or Witcher 3. Something seems off.

Why exactly? I've used furmark's 1080 bench about 20 times before and as a stress test for about an hour with an open case.

i've had two cards brick because of furmark and know others who've had furmark brick their cards. Its an unatural load that puts more strain than what is necessary to test if an overclock is stable. Stick to valley/heaven/3dmark/etc

Weird thing is it never happens during gaming. I ran 3D mark firestrike and nothing froze or anything.

yeah because its furmark making your system become like that

Well, I only turned it on because I noticed GPU going to 40*C while not being stressed. I opened up GPU-Z in furmark afterwards and noticed random spikes of 20-60% usage which stopped when the system also stopped using the disk at 80%. Maybe the 2 were connected and I ended up opening it at a wrong time?

My 970 idles at 45c... of course that's the 0% fan mode feature so its normal. Idle temps really mean nothing. Only worry of your load temps are high.

I do regularly sweeps with Symantec and Malwarebytes. I know Windows 8.1 likes to do random update checks/disk operations  causing disk usage of 100%.

My idle temps are usually 32*C

Considering games (Shogun 2 and such) behave normally, should I be worried? Everything is perfectly fine now, is there a chance I've bricked anything ._.

Yup. I just tried shogun 2 historic battle, Everything seems okay. When 1000 or so units are on screen it does start to feel like 40 fps but I guess that's to be expected. Eh, at any rate, removed Furmark and anything it came with. Hope I haven't bricked it ._.

Tried Witcher 3 for a min and aside from the pop in and stutter when I first load up the game (I assume it's since a lot of things are being loaded in real time around me) it evened out and felt smooth like before @ 60 fps low settings.

EDIT:http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/pc-hangs-when-opening-gpu-z.179520/

Maybe it's just GPU-Z?
