Replacement for r9 290x

I just killed my r9 290x (the geto mod for a aio (uneven pressure which cracked the gpu die)) I can get another one for 200$ or I can get a gtx 770 for the same price and for an extra 75 I can get a gtx 780. my plans are to go 4k eventually (sometime soon) and was wondering which of the cards I should get because everything else is basically out of my price range

If those are your options, go for another 290x. The 700 series, especially those you mentioned are getting up there...

780 with a good oc is better than a r9 290x but a good oc is not a guarantee but since you tried a ghetto gpu aio that might be something you are interested in (experimenting and voiding warranties).

But i would go for another r9 290x, its just cheaper for great performance.

oh forgot to say that it is the tri-x version

If you can planning to upgrade, R9 Fury(non-x) is on the best spot. 

GTX 980ti if you need extra the horse power.

A Tri X 290x? Nice... That card can OC no doubt. A good OC on the 290x trumps even the 780 with a high OC.
