I am looking to build a PC around $500 USD that is capable of gaming. I want to at minimum be able to play GTA V, as my current laptop can't run it for more than 5 minutes before it crashes. I mainly play CSGO and LoL, but I play more demanding games with some frequency. My friend help me compile this parts list, and I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me find better parts for around the same price range, currently this build is $485 USD on pcpartpicker. I do not need recommendations for any peripherals or OS as I already have most of them picked out or ordered already.

Intel Core i3-4160 3.6GHz Dual-Core Processor

ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

MSI Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card

Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower Case

Rosewill 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

Here is the link to the parts list if that helps anyone.

Thank you for any and all feedback.

you will need an i5 to play gta v

i think you should just save your money and buy it later with this build:

if you decided to try and lower the budget of the build above, the only thing you could really do is get a less expensive gpu because you WILL need that i5-4460 at a minimum.

the next cards down would be:

r9 285, $184

r9 280x, $209

r9 280, $173

r7 370, $143

750 ti, $117

there's no point in getting them because the good models are similar in price, or very close to, the 960 and they perform worse

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to go with a 750 ti and the i5 plus your motherboard, but the rest I'm going to keep. I am going to be buying this at earliest mid August because I am still saving up, I only have peripherals ordered because my parents owed me a bit of money. Again, thank you for your help.

Hey there and welcome to the community :)

@BigDay gave you some good suggestions which I would consider. One small note from me: GTAV is an open world game which is very storage-demanding. Usually games rely on the storage's performance only for their loading times and auto-saves but games like this one load huge texture files while in-game and thus require a very good storage. I would consider adding a SSD or a WD Black for the OS and for this particular game so you don't have stuttering or FPS drops. Here's a link to WD Black for more details: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=y6YJnn
