USB to Ethernet adapters

Hey guys,

Just wondering, does anybody know if you lose much internet speed via a USB to Ethernet adapter?

I was curious as I wonder if anybody has tested just running an ethernet cable straight into say a laptop and then tried again going via the USB with an adapter and what the difference was.

Cheers

I have used them before. 10/100BASE-T adapters will work just fine on USB2.0.

1000BASE-T will technically work on USB2.0, but you will be limited by the speed of the USB port. USB3.0 and above can handle a gigabit connection no problem

If using USB3 it should be around 90% as fast but it really depends on what NIC is in the adapter.

I use a USB-ethernet adapter on my macbook, and speeds really aren't affected that much, but the latency is.

Like, 1ms or so or what?

Cheers guys, the one I got is a USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter, should do the trick it seems!

What did you get? Got a link?
