I need some advice

I have a 970 and I'm getting a new psu but in the mean time will it run okay on 1 6+2 connector if I dont play games on it. My current psu is a aero cool integrator I figured it will only have a low powerdraw I'd it's not using anything me than 50%

if you use only one eight pin connector then the card doesn't even power correctly on with your system and causes a bunch of problems. 

 

So no you can't. it has the extra power delivery for a reason

Does your 970 need more than that? Mine only uses a 6+2, so I don't see why you should have an issue.

I do know it's possible to run graphics cards with a 6-pin connector in an 8-pin socket, because it'll automatically detect that, but I'm not sure if plugging in just a single power cable is going to have the same effect. Given the available wattage overhead on 8-pin cables over the official maximum it's unlikely that you'll actually damage your components, but I'd say it's a very real possibility that it will simply refuse to run.
