HD518 vs HD558

Is the extra price worth it over the 518 ?

If it is , should i still go for it even without a dedicated dac/amp/soundcard ?

apparently they all sound basically the same, probably not worth the extra money, get the 518. in the uk the 518 is £70 and the 558 is £120 so almost half the price.

as you can see the differences is are basically the higher freq response, i heard the 558s are comfier but is that worth almost two times the price.

It really depends on personal preference

I personally like the 558 better because it's slightly more comfortable than the 518, but sound is really close especially in the mids

But for the price I don't think it's worth the upgrade for the money unless of course you don't like ear fatigue or less accurate sound

My local shops sell the 518 for 550 RON ( romanian currency ) and the 558 for 820 RON , so it's not exactly half . ( also the 598 are at 999 RON so then the question is if that's worth it )

Frequency response without conditions is less than meaningless.

 

Bottom line, the 518 has a more boosted low-end compared to the 558. The 558 is also slightly more open.
