Is this worth getting rather than the normal S6?

It is more rugged and has better battery

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

It really depends on your usage,

Nice elegant sleep well made, nice feeling phone = S6

Ugly boxy plastic monster that is very tough + better battery = S6 Active

If you need water proof and ruggedness the s6 active is a great choice, if you just want a normal lovely looking and feeling phone get the normal one

If you can live without the fingerprint scanner, then yes. It has a bigger battery if I recall correctly.

Personally, I can't live without the fingerprint scanner as I have to take public transport on a daily basis and inputting your 4-digit passcode in public sort-of defeats the purpose of the security layer in my opinion.

That depends on your usage.

The normal S6 has a fingerprint scanner, is thinner and lighter, and also comes with extras, but has a smaller 2550mAh battery.

The Active is reportedly IP68-certified, meaning it's waterproof beyond 1m in depth for up to 30 minutes and is completely dust-proof. It also has a much larger 3500mAh battery. But you miss out on the finger scanner, is thicker and heavier and there might not be wireless charging.
