It looks like a good build to me.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

Isn't having 4 cores better?

yes having 4 is better, but i think if you go down to an i3, you'll only notice about 10-15% of a difference. the videos i posted above show you just how much of a "bottleneck" you will incur. it's not much. the most important thing imo is having a really good gpu.

Ok... well I guess I should have explained that this pc will be used for gaming lightly (it will also be a workstation (ArcGIS, some autoCAd) and of course general multimedia (movies, music, streaming services) and used to stream console games (Halo, some ps4 exclusives).  I don't know if this would be useful to your opinion on CPU.  but I've been reccomended the locked i5 by a number of people.

if your budget is 800 cdn, why is your build closer to 900 cdn? if i had that budget to play with i'd make a better system for you. include your case etc.

I believe that it was not showing mail in rebates/discount codes.. (MOBO is $68, PCU $59) (brings me closer to $800).  I would like to stay around $800, please offer any suggestions.  This is first build so I'm wanting input.

if you want a better gpu, pick an i3 4160 or i3 4170 to save some money. they both have hyper threading. i'm not a fan of your gpu. i would get an i3 and something else, but seems like you're pretty set on getting a 4 core cpu. i have no idea how well your workstation programs will perform on an i3 compared to an i5 with 4 cores, sorry. here's the best i could do. changed the psu to a better one and changed the ram to dual channel.

can anyone else chime in and tell us if the i3 will still perform well with workstation use? thanks

Not entirely.... this pc will be used in conjunction with console games (streaming, working with lighter gaming needs... So no,

well the 280 is similar in performance to the 7950 gpu. i have the 7950 and it plays games well. i think you should be fine with the build above
