External drive empty files

I tured on my PC today and it didn't start, I loaded it from a back up (from 2 days ago). The computer workes fine but the external drive I back up on is "empty". It's not empty, Windows(7) shows it's half full( 1 TB drive); but all of the folders in it are empty?  

When I try to access any file Windows says it's not there any ore.

this sounds like some sort of malfunction with the drive, some times when the drive is not recieving enough power it can show up as connected but show no data stored on the device... maybe check it power input??
