Hi guy's i am having a problem with my computer, where it just suddenly shutdown and restart's out of nowhere for no reason, there are no warning messages displayed by the system neither before nor after the shutdown.

these shutdowns don't seem to have a specific timing or reason they just happen while i am playing games, browsing the internet or activities as simple as listening to music, although i am leaning towards it being a software related problem, yet i still cant diagnose it due to the lack of info!!

Now i have checked usual suspects like:

1) thermal protective shutdown, i have monitored my CPU's heat and it never went anywhere close to 60° C. ( and i use a corsair H100 cooler)

2) I ran memtest86 and it didn't come up with any errors for the RAM.

3) and lastly the PSU, now i am suspecting it might be the source of this issue but i have no way of confirming it.

and now i am kinda stuck with this issue, and as we all know sudden shutdowns are not good for the longevity of the system.

System Specs:

cpu: i7 950 @ 3.07 GHz (Corsair H100 cooler)

Ram: 12 GB of Kingstone KVR DDR3

PSU: mercury 750W

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7700 S

I appreciate any help and thx in advance. :D

if you require any extra information that i have missed here just tell me ill be happy to provide it..

I Listen. i Observe. I Learn. I make my own decision

Its said to be a bad power supply. Im sure that its a problem caused by the power supply. You might wanna change it to a psu thats a higher class.

If you had ram issues then your situation would likely be alot worse.

Try running a check disk, could be indexing errors,

I would expect bluescreens normally first though..

Also try hard drive diag tools...

You might want to open up you computer and make sure all the cables are connected tight, while your at re-seat the CPU, RAM and Graphics card, and anything else connected to the motherboard.

Try stress testing your GPU too (furmark)

Download various virus and malware scanners, run them make sure you don't have computer aids ;)

If nothing flags up, and its still crashing re-install windows

You should run some tests on the CPU too, if the machine lets you do that without rebooting... run for example prime95 blend test and see if it logs any errors.

I'd also not simply trust memtest, passing memtest doesn't mean that there is not a problem with your ram (not passing memtest generally means that you know there is a problem). Take the ram out and test the system with only one stick at a time. When a PC reboots without any type of warning the problem is with the RAM the majority of the time.

At what speed are you running your RAM? Might want to try clocking them down, even if you're running at their certified speed. Also make sure that the timings are correctly set by the bios.

You could use OCCT to stress test the PSU too but I've read about people killing lower quality PSUs doing that, so keep that in mind. Unless your PSU is already faulty it should be fine though, it has got more than enough watts to handle your system.

Another really stupid thing worth trying is to deactivate the Windows paging file, reboot, then reactivate the paging file again. That thing can go corrupt and cause reboots, bsod, black screens among other things. Happened to me once.

Which OS are you using and which motherboard do you have? Before assuming it's a hardware issue, I suggest checking the Windows Reliability Monitor to see if it's a program that's causing the random shut downs. The Reliability Monitor will show when Windows crashed unexpectedly and which program caused it. A lot of the time it's a program that's launched in the background with Windows related to your hardware. If you don't see crashes logged, then it's possible you have a hardware issue.

Here's how to access the Reliability Monitor on Win7/8

Type this in the Search, RUN or Command Prompt, "perfmon /rel" (without the quotes)

But if it was a program causing the issue wouldn't it display a massage after the system has started again? and i use an Intel DX58SO 2 with Win 7, i still think it might be the psu for 2 reasons, first is that the shutdowns only occur when my pc starts to run something both cpu and gpu intensive meaning its drawing more power, second is i have had this psu for more than 3 years frankly id be surprised if it wasn't the source of the issue.. :p

but thanks for the suggestion any way, i am gonna try it, no harm i doing so.. :D
