Hey!

Im looking to build a mid range pc. Im buying sort of mid range-budget parts now so when the time comes to upgrade, I can buy quality parts then. But, Im having trouble deciding on a processor. Solely looking at the future of the pc industry and where it is headed, should I go AMD or Intel? Ive asked my friends and they all say intel, but I wanted to hear the forums opinion too. Any information would be a great help.

Thanks,

Sribeast21

Is this only for gaming?

I would say go with AMD because you get a lot more for your money, and also AMD needs our money so they can develop better architectures to compete with Intel so there will be more competition and the prices will be better for us. I would recommend the FX-4350 or the FX-6300 along with a good motherboard so you can overclock. I know there will be Intel fanboys saying hey man go with Intel it's way better than AMD, while this is true (Intel is better than AMD), we must not abandon AMD or Intel will start charging $800 for an i5 and each new architecture will will be slightly ahead of the previous, and games will not be able to advance in graphics and features. So please for the future of gaming go with AMD.

[AMD Athlon 64 Mobile 4000+ Socket 754 | Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro nForce3 | OCZ 2GB DDR PC3200 | Sapphire HD 3850 512MB AGP | 850 Evo | Seasonic 430W | Win XP/10]

If you intend on only gaming go for the i5-4670K as it will allow you to overclock and squeeze more performance out of it. It is also on the current Z87 chipset so there will be room to upgrade in the future. However if you intend on doing video editing or work with 3D go for the AMD FX-8320 or FX-8350 as they have more cores which would be better utilized in heavy workload environments.

It depends on your situation.

Make a build balanced to get the best bang for your buck and don't choose specific ' good' parts to build around or else you would get less performance in the end.
