Hi everyone, im currently using this set up:

i3 3320 @ 3.5Ghz

ASRock ZH77 - Pro 3

8GB Corsair Vengance
GTX 690 4GB
Thermaltake level 10 GT
1TB Western Digital Caviar Black
EVGA 850W Modular PSU
48" Sony TV (1920 x 1080)

Stock Cooler

Its not exactly great.. the only hardware I plan on keeping are my 1TB HDD, GTX 690 & my 850W PSU as they are only a few months old.

These are my expected upgrades:

CPU: i7 5930K (For the 40 PCI lanes as i plan on getting another 690 and running 2 in 16x)

MB: Asus sabertooth X99 motherboard (2011 socket)

RAM: 16GB Ballistix Sport DDR4 2400Mhz

Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX 240mm water cooler

SSD: Samsung 2.5" 500GB EVO SSD

HDD: 2TB HDD (Western digital black)

These will be hooked upto 3 monitors, either 27" 1080p's or 24" 1440p's (Using the GPU/s in SLI of course once i buy a second, I will only buy another 2 monitors once i have another GPU)

The GPU's will eventually be watercooled in a custom loop but i havent researched about those yet, but will once my hardware is up to date..

Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts on changing any of the hardware here? or any suggestions as to what to add in..

The rig will be built for editing and high end gaming (possibly 4K dependant on games) and typical web browsing.

Would be appreciated if you guys could give your input :)

Why 27" 1080p or 24" 1440p, shouldn't that be 24" 1080 and 27" 1440?

And why Quad SLI 690s, that's a bad idea in terms of optimization and power consumption.

Better off with dual 980Ti's in that case, and they are easier to watercool too as they are newer.

Why would you SLI 690's? Its already a dual GPU card as is, if you SLI them youre talking a 4-way config which will end up hurting more than its solving.

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

Logitech G502 RGB // Corsair K65 RGB (MX Red)

I didn't think that older 2011 boards supported the DDR4 memory that the new i7-5000 series ran.

But in any case i would sell the GTX 690 and buy s GTX 980 Ti which is destroying everything at every resolution and has a higher frame buffer (6GB @7GHz) than the 690 (which is actually 2GB because the memory pool is separate and mirror one another's data). Check out this video from Tek Syndicate to learn more about that: EVGA 980 Ti SC+ ACX 2.0+ Overclocked 4k Benchmarks & Review The 4-way SLI will get you many more problems than it will solve and will likely not benefit you in games that aren't optimized heavily for or created for PC, you will likely run into issues of utilization, frametimes, and game crashing long before you reach higher frames per second at a higher resolution.

However also the surround set up of being 3 monitors doesn't end up putting out 4K, as your post seemed to suggest near the end. Personally I would go with one 4K monitors and there was great one suggested by Windel of Tek Syndicate: Affordable 39" 4k Gaming Monitor - The AMH A399U

Shit yeah thats what i meant about the monitors lol..

Im only having 2 690's, (I know that means basically 4 GPU's due to it being a dual video card) But power comsumption wise i can power both cards and all other hardware with a little headroom, if need be, ill get a better PSU.

I was having a look at the 980ti's and i do like the look of them, only they will up my budget by about £1000 if i got 2. Getting another 690 will be cheaper as i already have one.

Id ran with 2 of these cards before and I can configure them to work easily, I sold one to a friend as his 7970 broke and he needed one on short notice.

I have seen both of these Tek Syndicate videos and I do agree with you on everything, Ill take your advice on getting a 4K monitor, it would be best i think.

The board does support the memory I have said, i made sure i checked compatability before i even threw it in my amazon basket.

The GTX 690 is 4GB. Or at least its acting like a 4GB card in games.. I mostly play GTA and Battlefield 4.. I can use the full 4GB's on the card, althought now that i think about it getting 2 of the 980ti's sounds better seeing as some games dont like SLI (Advanced warfare definitely doesnt!), and if i had 2x 690's id have to turn off 3 GPU's to play it, i'll consider the 980TI's! Thanks :)
