these type of errors usually are caused by faulty drivers try to re-install them or go back to the version before it and see if it helps

is it new? There can be a lot of things doing. But knowing whether or not it started it recently or not is important.

I've had it since December, 2013.

Btw, the core and memory isn't always at this high. Sometimes it's alot lower and the temp would be just fine at idle(30c)

Does the clock and Mem speed fluctuate? Or is it solid?

No, they're stuck at Core Clock 980Mhz and Memory Clock 1750Mhz

Do you have multi monitors? Or have you made any changes? It could very well be a bad driver. The last drivers have been pretty bad.

I had an issue with my 980 going full bore was due to the changing screensaver. Multi monitors or 120Hz monitors have been known to cause this. There could also be issues with background programs and or hardware acceleration in chrome ETC.

Like I said there could be a lot of things doing this and it becomes a process of elimination.

I've two monitors, one 120hz and one 60hz but I keep the 60hz off almost all the time because I don't need it that much

Like I said its trial an error begin to eliminate possible factors. Start with drivers try older ones, try new install etc, then begin testing one monitor, and so on. If none of that works then you may want to try new thermal paste.

Was reading through other forums, some guy suggested to disable Shadowplay in NVIDIA Geforce Experience, I did so and now the Clocks are normal at idle

lol

Well that is a new one. Glad you got it. Things like these are always tricky because it could be anything.
