I have a Kindle (B&W e-ink with no touch or keyboard) and I think I am going to replace with a Android tablet. I really like e-ink, I just want a higher resolution screen. I actually like how limited the device is, as I've always felt that a tablet would make it easier to spend more time being less productive. My biggest compliant is that high resolution PDF files are a pain to zoom in and read. All of the higher end e-reader's I've seen are just as much as a tablet, so I feel like it is a little silly to spend that much on such a limited device.

Any Kindle users out there with the same gripes?

Not going to get a Kindle tablet. I've hated them every time I've been forced to help users with them.

Why not get the new Paperwhite or the Voyage if you want a high resolution? They have a 1430 x 1080 screen compared to your current resolution being 600 x 800 if I'm correct. The new Paperwhite should be affordable considering that you are aiming to get a tablet which will cost more for a good one.
