Anyone know of any software I can use to brute force a huge combination of possible passwords to try and crack a Truecrypt container?

I would like to start off by clarifying that I am NOT hacking into someone elses personal files. I just created a TC container on a USB a few months ago and forgot the password. Nothing too important on there I don't think, but I do know there was work on there.

Stupid thing to do, yes, but point is I have now forgotten it.

I am trying to brute force some passwords the long way but this is taking forever! Anyone know of any software I can use to do this job for me?

I think I know some of the password, which is a good place to start.

OclHashCat is the best GPU cracker and supports

  • TrueCrypt 5.0+ PBKDF2 HMAC-RipeMD160 + AES
  • TrueCrypt 5.0+ PBKDF2 HMAC-SHA512 + AES
  • TrueCrypt 5.0+ PBKDF2 HMAC-Whirlpool + AES
  • TrueCrypt 5.0+ PBKDF2 HMAC-RipeMD160 + AES + boot-mode
  • TrueCrypt 5.0+ PBKDF2 HMAC-RipeMD160 + AES + hidden-volume
  • TrueCrypt 5.0+ PBKDF2 HMAC-SHA512 + AES + hidden-volume
  • TrueCrypt 5.0+ PBKDF2 HMAC-Whirlpool + AES + hidden-volume
  • TrueCrypt 5.0+ PBKDF2 HMAC-RipeMD160 + AES + hidden-volume + boot-mode

OclHashCat my friend

Which GPU is recommended for this software? AMD or NVidia? I understand that NVidia Cuda tech is used in some brute force software to speed things up?

GTX 970 is comparable to a 280X for cracking but OclHashCat requires Catalyst 14.9 driver.

Do you happen to know anything about AMD Catalyst driver support for the 390?

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDCatalyst14-9WINReleaseNotes.aspx

Does not list the 390

I'll look it up further when I wake up. must sleep now :P

thanks

EDIT: ah

I read in one article just now that AMD have released a beta driver for the 390? How well would that work?

huh lol I got some good news: I don't need to brute force it. Figured out the password.

haha I feel so stupid. It was a pass I didn't think of using. So brute forcing probably wouldn't have worked anyways if I didn't get it to brute force any random combination - which would have taken ages anyways.

Thanks guys!!
