Hey guys,

So I have attempted to make my system a dual-boot and failed. Pretty badly. I started off by downloading Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and just made a bootable USB and install it. Everything went smoothly until I was making the boot-repair stuff. I couldn't install boot-repair so I just restarted my computer. On the restart, a lot of text came up on the screen and the fonts of the text changes after a while and boots into the login screen.

In the login screen, I couldn't move my cursor for some reason and I just pressed the Reset button on my PC. This continued for awhile and for some reason, I managed to boot into Windows. In Windows, I opened up Disk Management and deleted the partitions I created earlier while installing Linux(I didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that). Upon deletion, the partitions became " Free Space " instead of " Unallocated " . I attempted to delete the volume but it shows a message that I will make it inaccessible. I tried creating a New Simple Volume ( with and without assigning a drive letter ) but I just wouldn't work as well.

So now, I'm stuck with a screen showing " error : no such partition. Entering rescue mode... grub rescue> " It's something like a command prompt.

I have tried solutions like using a Win8 recovery disk to get into command prompt and use commands like /fixboot etc and it didn't work. I've also tried commands on the Grub rescue like :

grub rescue > ls

(hd0) (hd0,msdos5) (hd0,msdos3) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,msdos1)
grub rescue > ls (hd0,msdos1) # try to recognize which partition is this
grub rescue > ls (hd0,msdos2) # let's assume this is the linux partition
grub rescue > set root=(hd0,msdos2)

and it just won't work as well.

Any answers or help provided will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time :)

EDIT : Will changing the internal HDD that both Ubuntu and Win8 is installed on it help ?

Tried that method. It does not help.

Boot into the ubuntu live CD and update grub.  It should pick up windows.

Linux "nerd".  If I helped you please like my post and maybe add me as a friend :)  ^_^!

What kind of backup ?

I have a backup of all my work documents and important files.

In which case, if all else fails, you can start again with a fresh install of windows without losing your files.

Try the suggestions on this thread first though:  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2109828

How to create a strong password

Size does not matter; it's how you use it

Nope, seems like I need to remove the " Free Space " partition before I can do anything.
