Asus Z97 A. Whenever I recommend motherboards I always recommend asus if they're overclocking. AISuite 3 is unparalleled for overclocking and fan tuning.

Asus in the hardware industry is like what apple is in the PC industry.

-You overpay.

-They claim there software is superior, when any other brands works just as well.

-They do the exact same things as the others, and linch your wallet for a premium.

-They perform to others Identically when they have the same specs.

-And they have some serious flaws, everyone glosses over.

Yeah I don't really like asus and the design on the motherboard and I agree on everything that you've just said .

Your motherboard has z87 chipset not z97 it's not a big difference but still. Atleast I think if the z87 is good then z97 one should be good too.

overlooked that my bad.

ONLY TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THIS POST IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE QUAD GPU SETUP.

If you can trim about $100 of of your build(other than mobo) then you should get the ASUS Maximus 6 extreme. It has 5 pcie ports, a big win against the 1x16, 1x8 and 1x4 on your current mobo. If you can save some money or add soem money to the budget, then that mobo would be useful for a 4 gpu setup with another random card somewhere, and some more PCI slots.

IF YOU CAN'T/WON'T BUT THE ABOVE MOBO, TRIM $50 OFF YOUR BUILD AND BUY THE EVGA CLASSIFIED Z87 MOBO. IT HAS 4 PCIE X16 SLOTS.

ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark S.

It's white.

What you picked is a great, solid motherboard which should do you well. As far as motherboards go you don't need one with all of those fancy features and stuff. When is the last time you used an 802.11ac/Bluetooth wireless adapter thing that comes out of your motherboard on a desktop. Or a button to post. Or red numbers at the corner of your motherboard (which I still don't know what they do). OR RGB LIGHTING ON YOUR MOTHERBOARD GOD DANGIT MSI YOU'RE BECOMING JUST LIKE RAZER.

An SSD would be great for booting, but other than that the build looks sick.

As for mobo, Gigabyte is a great company along with MSI and Asus. It's a matter of preference. I like Asus, but some swear by Gigabyte. If you like the look of the board and its feature, then go for it!

Hope this helps :D

Dual Boot Windows & Hackintosh

CPU: Intel 4790K | Motherboard: ASUS Maximus Hero Vii | GPU: Zotac AMP! Extreme GTX 970 | Display: ASUS PB278Q | Case: Phantom 630 | PSU: Corsair HX1000i

Canada eh?

Might wanna clarify on those points? Their z97 platform entry level ones are about the same price as all the other brands. AISuite 3 is asus exclusive and no other brand has even developed software like it. I'd also like to hear about the flaws too. I own an asus z97 A and can't be any happier. My manual overclock on my i5 4690k yields 4.6 ghz at 1.3v, but with AISuite 3 it got 4.7 with 1.275v (both stable).

They still are overpriced, and there entry level boards don't offer the features that matter like SLI support, which every competitor's board in the same price range does.
