Wireless network adapter

Long story short. I have an old motherboard that has integrated support for 10/100mbps only. I pay for 200mbps internet. I am connected through a LAN cable from my router at the moment. If I buy a wireless network adapter that goes into my computer and supports 300mbps and I connect my computer through WI-FI will I be able to reach speeds of over 100mbps? Obviously not even with cable I can't realistically get exactly 200mbps but will I get at least 150-170mbps?

You already have a hardwired connection, why not just get a gigabit NIC?

I'd get a gigabit PCI-E network card but my motherboard is too old for that stuff, I can only fit my GPU in there. There's no more PCI-E slots.
