Twitch.tv text message when someone streams?

So I put my cell number on twitch and I thought it was supposed to send me a message when someone i was following went live well that never happened. Is this a real feature or am I reading something wrong. And if it is did I do something wrong? i never got a message and was very late for today's live stream.

We only provide this service for channels you are subscribed to.

 

I found this when I was looking for the feature. I guess only to channels that you are subscribed (not following).

I am subscribed to a couple of channels on twitch and that is the only way. Linus' channel does not have a sub button by the way... :(
